I used to have a mentor who would say to me, “If you did it once, you can do it again.”
We were talking about creating $10k sales in a month. In that community, you were indoctrinated into the “$10k Month Club” if you achieved that goal, and we found that often, women specifically, would shy away from wearing that well-earned badge.
“Well, I only did it once. I’m not doing it consistently yet.”
And my mentor would say, “So what? If you did it once, you can do it again. You’ve already proven to yourself it’s possible.”
I thought of that story last week as I was giving my dog her 2 dog treats. They are small treats so she gets two at a time these days, and I was thinking, “Maybe I should give her 3 today.”
And then I realized that my dog goes by that same mantra: “If she did it once, she might do it again.”
– If I feed her food scraps from the table, I might do it again. So now she lays next to the table every time we eat.
– If I give her 3 treats today as a special thing, I might do it again tomorrow. So I suspect tomorrow she’d sit and beg for that 3rd treat, no matter what.
So, I’m wondering if you sometimes eat more “humble pie” than you should?
Do you not give yourself credit for what you’ve already achieved, simply because you haven’t replicated it since?
If we use the example from above, I want you to claim that $10k month and refer to yourself as a $10k/month earner from now on.
Whatever your best achievement is so far, claim it as your norm. Declare it so, every single day.
Every single day, be as loyal to that belief as my dog, Annie is to her beliefs of potential treats in the future.
“If you did it once, you can do it again.”
I believe in you!
