Do you ever find it hard to ask for help?

Do you find yourself thinking it’s ‘better’ to try to do everything on your own before you hire someone or reach out?

Would you rather be the giver than the receiver

We get it. As an entrepreneur, you might be wired to be more of a ‘doer’…or maybe you’ve just always had to get things done on your own (anyone else a gen x latchkey kid?).

Sometimes we even pick these things up from our family or culture who taught us that to need or ask for help was a sign of weakness.

I remember one time in college I was moving from one apartment to another. I lived up two flights of stairs, and had to get all my stuff down by myself. It didn’t even occur to me to ask for help. I didn’t have a lot of stuff, but I did have a bunch of boxes and a full size futon bed. I took the bed apart myself and got the frame down the stairs and into my truck.

Then came the mattress, and if you ever had a futon in 1992, you know how amazingly heavy those suckers were. I was a petite woman, but I was determined to get it down the stairs. There were some guys in the parking lot who asked if I needed help..”I got it”, I said.

I loaded that beast into a blanket and hauled it down the stairs. It was hard work, and I almost toppled down the stairs, but I somehow managed to get it up into the truck bed with a triumphant cry. My back hurt, and I was exhausted, but I did it all by myself.

And so what…was that really so great? If I’d let the guys help me, maybe I would have made new friends, gone out for a margarita after, and never had to move alone again.

Instead, I was just achy and sweaty, all by myself, in a new apartment full of boxes.

There were other times that I said no to opportunities and helpful people that, looking back, I see would have been great choices at the time.

Every time we say YES, the path we’re on branches out in limitless potentials…

I’m not saying don’t be discerning about your ‘yes’s’, but also check in with yourself when you experience those automatic ‘no’s’ that come out of your mouth before you’ve even thought about it.

Give yourself a ‘no’ test:

  • Is this a ‘no’ that you know deep down in your wise gut?
  • Or is this a ‘no’ based on old stories that you tell yourself about who you are and what you deserve or are capable of?

If it’s the second one, try turning that ‘no’ into a ‘yes’, and just see what happens, %FIRSTNAME%!

You have to say the ‘yes’ first in order to see what comes after that…

And we want you to receive alllll the amazing things, people, and opportunities the Universe is trying to give you.

If there are any ‘no’s’ you want to turn into ‘yes’s’, but you’re not sure how, share it in our Lighten Your Launch Facebook group and let us support you.🤗
